Full Moon

Yesterday for the full moon, I gathered herbs and sewed. I read some new materials and wrote in my grimoire.

Thyme
Rosemary
Mint

I finished the putting together of my garment and I’m going to put it on hold for now. I’m learning that I don’t like the pattern itself of the dress I made.

It looks fine but it’s just dreadfully modern and I don’t love that. The pattern doesn’t make any cohesive sense and it doesn’t fit the body too well. I’m going to put it on hold and start a skirt from the remaining length of wool.

Cutting Out the Pattern

Tonight I began cutting out my pattern. It’s a simple black wool dress with short sleeves that is meant as a base layer for other sweaters to be put on top of it. I added some length so the dress should hit me below the knee. you can see where the dress ended and the added fabric to the bottom of the fabric that I cut.

Hopefully this will make a nice simple modern dress to replace the one I had before. I’m contemplating adding a gore into the back of the skirt to add some extra swish and flow to the piece.

Ripping a Pattern

So I’m beginning my journey and I’ve realized just how many clothes I have that are polyester. Good solid work dresses of mine have it inside it. That means it’s time to rip a pattern from my favorite dress and use that to make myself something beautiful by hand that I am proud to wear

I’ve decided to do a simple dress to start with. Something that is in line with my modern style that wouldn’t be too jarring to wear in public to start.

Here is my poly-rayon dress seams. It’s been narrowed by machine and sewn in a loose fashion.

I start by ripping out all the stitching so that I can use the fabric underneath to make a pattern from.

Here I am ripping out the stitching
It’s messy work with a lot of extra thread.

Soon enough I will be able to replace all that I own with dresses that are made by my own hand. Step by step towards my goal. 🌝✨

The Solemn Vow

I vow to not participate in fast fashion. From this point forward, I vow to wear only linens, silks and wool clothes.

Me setting up for one of my latest projects

I’ve been long on this sewing journey. I’ve been sewing for medieval dress since 2016 and my tastes for good fabrics have bloomed and grown even deeper as time has gone on. I feel the most comfortable wearing my medieval linen and wool gowns with their linen chemises underneath. When I first started sewing, I hand finished every seam because it looked the nicest.

The inside seam to my first dress I ever made

A hand finished seam brings a warmth of comfort beyond that of a fast finished seam.

It’s time to bring my love of fabrics into my every day modern fashion. First step is to do a culling of clothes. I will be savage towards any clothing that is a blend or has polyester in it. I will begin making a list of items I use every day and how I can replace them with a dress of finer quality fabrics made well.

Wish me luck, dear friends!
